Recently, the M1 Kék Bolygó program filmed at the ACADEMIA office building, focusing on the importance of building biology. The ACADEMIA was the perfect location for the topic, as it was the first building in Hungary to earn the WELL Health and Safety certification. Expert Regina Kurucz discussed the significance of a healthy work environment in the feature.
Building biology aims to ensure that buildings have a positive impact on the health of their occupants through the use of natural, eco-friendly materials. While the construction industry has historically focused on speed and cost-effectiveness, today it also considers environmental factors, such as air quality. Indoor air can contain up to two thousand volatile organic compounds, making the assurance of high air quality essential.
Sustainable Buildings for the Future
The Well Health and Safety certification guarantees compliance with the strictest health and sustainability requirements. Regina Kurucz, who coordinated the certification process, explained that green certification systems take into account not only energy efficiency but also waste management, land use, and the ecological footprint of materials used. “Today, it’s increasingly important to consider the impact of a building on employees’ health,” she added.
The certification process gave special attention to air and drinking water quality, the provision of natural light, thermal comfort, acoustic environment, and the use of healthy materials. “It’s crucial to work in spaces surrounded by natural materials and patterns. A green environment and a healthy workplace are not a luxury, but a basic need,” she concluded.
ACADEMIA not only leads the way in providing a healthy work environment but also excels in energy efficiency and the development of digital infrastructure. With its recently obtained WELL Platinum, WiredScore Platinum certification and “B” EPC rating, ACADEMIA has become one of the most modern and sustainable refurbished office buildings in Budapest.
